Law & Order

An interesting episode of Law & Order was on this morning. No clue what it's called; a woman killed a little girl performing an exorcism. The girl was likely medication-resistant ADHD; no drugs were helping her behaviour (then again, it didn't sound like they'd been trying meds for very long, if at all - the doctor said to, but no indication that they did it). So exorcism, by a lay person who hears messages from God via Saint Michael.

I have no issues with hearing from God.

I have no issues with following the messages given by God.

I have *huge* issues with fighting a spirit using physical force, and with believing that God's message (in this kind of instance) would *ever* have anything to do with injuring another living creature.

Yes, the woman did a lot of good. But she killed a girl, and would probably do so again if told to fight harder and be stronger.

Of course, that's just a TV show. But it parallels much of what is happening in the world today, especially as regards treating psychological disorders (meaning disorders diagnosed using the DSM-IV, not that people are psychotic, etc.).
