Open Skies

And now... notes from Tehillah, followed by my personal musings and responses.

"All I Want For Christmas is a Healthy Relationship"

What a man desires is unfailing love;
better to be poor than a liar.
Proverbs 19:22

The Six Biggest Mistakes You Can Make at the Beginning of a Relationship

1. We don't ask enough questions.
so caught up in the thrill that we forget there's an actual person in there to get to know.
when you don't ask the right questions, you are in for a lot of surprises later on.
we don't ask because we don't want to know, or we don't want to have to answer them ourselves.

2. We ignore warning signs of potential problems.
minimize, deny, excuse.
we see what we want to see; later we say they've changed, but we just weren't letting ourselves see it before.
first two weeks of a relationship will show lots of these warning signs, if they're there.

3. We make premature compromises.
change behaviours, morals because we are afraid we'll get dumped.
spend more time trying to be something you aren't than what you really are.
do things we normally avoid.

4. We give in to lust blindness.
in love with the passion, not the person.

5. We give in to material seduction.
money, lifestyle, power, career, etc.
need to choose based on emotional & spiritual giving.

6. We neglect the spiritual foundation.
soul-mate: connected spirit->spirit, soul->soul.
invite Holy Spirit to be a part of the relationship, to guide and lead.

"Heaven & Earth will pass away, but the Word of the Lord endures forever."

Make Jesus Christ the centre of everything in your life - including relationships.

PERSONAL REFLECTIONS

More teaching of the dare...

Open Skies
David Crowder Band

Praise Him under open skies
Everything breathing praising God
In the company of all who love the King
I will dance, I will sing
It could be heavenly
Turn the music loud,
lift my voice and shout
From where I am
From where I've been
He's been there with me
He's built a monument
His very people
So let his people
Sing, sing, sing

And it's so wonderful
Just to be here now

[Chorus]
Praise Him under open skies
Everything breathing praising God
In the company
Of all who love the King

Praise Him under open skies
Everything breathing praising God
In the company of all who love the King
Let us dance, let us sing
It could be heavenly
Turn the music loud and sing

Lift your voice to heaven
Lift up your head and sing
To the One who gave his love
This is our offering
Lift your voice to heaven
Lift up your head and sing
To the One who gave His son
Here our lives we bring

From wherever you are
Wherever you've been
He's been there
So let his people sing

And it's so wonderful to be here now
Wherever you are wherever you've been
He's been there

You're worthy
amazing grace
makes me worthy
and tears threaten

You left the splendour of all You had and came to share this message of Love. You gave all You had and expected nothing but faith and love in return. How can we fail to do the same in Your stead? We are Your light to the world, reflecting You as You shine into our lives. Remind us to go to the downtrodden, the broken, the fallen, and the wealthy. You came for all, and we are called to go to all.

"And whoever welcomes a little child like this in My name welcomes Me."
Matthew 18:5

What a man desires is unfailing love;
better to be poor than a liar.
Proverbs 19:22

"We see people with our eyes and we don't feel them with our hearts."
-Steve Osmond

So funny to be here, tonight, for this talk.
I've been caught up by a few of those mistakes - in the recent past, no less.
I've been thinking, for the last week or so, that I do actually want to be married someday. I want to have a baby; it won't be the end of the world if it doesn't happen, but I do want it. I didn't think I did.

Weird to have one of the messages be that Jesus must be made the centre of my life, when that song was recently one that I posted here because it spoke to me.

Decided that next year (2005) I'll keep a list of every single song that speaks to me like that. Dated by month. And then I can make a set of mix tapes.
