I have found that Newton's Laws of Motion apply to many (if not all) areas of life. As a refresher, here they are:
- An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion unless or until it is acted upon by an outside force.
- An object in motion will accelerate in direct proportion to any outside force, depending on its mass.
- For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
The first law is about inertia, which is generally accepted as an aspect of executive functioning. At its base, stuff and people and animals (etc.) keep doing what they're doing until something makes them do something else. It's one possible reason why autistic people and ADHDers have trouble starting tasks.
The second is about how difficult it can be to move more quickly. Force, friction, weight... it's hard, y'all.
And the third I talked about a bit ago, how everything we do results in something else. Consequences.
How do we see these at work in our spiritual lives?
We get comfortable. We stay where we are, we don't want it to change. But when we really allow God to take over, things change a lot. We gain speed, we gain traction, we start behaving in ways we should instead of whatever is easiest in a given situation.
Don't be too comfortable.
Peace & Blessings.
