The Role of the Church

If the church would do its job, there would be no homeless in any cities, for they would be provided shelter by the church.

If the church would do its job, there would be no children lost within "the system", for they would be provided families by the church.

If the church would do its job, there would be no jobless and no poor, for they would be given jobs and taken care of by the church.

If the church would do its job and care for the cities here at home *first*, there would be more people available and more money to be donated to causes like WorldVision and Compassion International.

I am not decrying either organization.

I am decrying the lack of attention to social justice in the Christian church of today.

Christ was all about social action. God has always been about social action. The Spirit did not come upon the apostles so they could build up congregations of self-centred people who will sponsor a child in Africa but turn away from the homeless man downtown.

My Call. I wrote my Core Values and Mission Statement here a few days ago. Funny how I've been pushed lately to hold tight to that Calling no matter what, and then tonight at Tehillah we were reminded that every one of us *has* a Call on our life.

We can run from it, but God won't let us alone until we come to Him and lay down our pride, our disobedience, and our whole will at His feet. He needs to be in charge.

Starfield played Tehillah tonight, and I'll be posting songs over at my LiveJournal. If you want the address, let me know.
